So I never thought I would deactivate my Facebook account. How freeing it has become. I must admit at times I do have withdrawls and feel an urge to peruse through random people's photos, which then links me to another random person's photos, except this person is even more random because I don't know them. GUH! I am starting to value my privacy. Plus, I'm living in England, I need to take advantage of its beauty, not sitting and waiting for that beautiful red notification flag... Plus, it really was irritating listening to people constantly talk about "FB" in real life. Yes, I know how does deactivating my account prevent people talking about Facebook? It does not, it just makes the endless stories new since I have not been watching the news feed. And news feed? If that is what the new generation thinks a newsfeed, then God help us as the stadard for mediocracy is lowered.
So why am I ranting about FB? Well, after cute little nicknames for it, movies about it, references about it in moves, and smart phone addicted people giving consant updates, I want to be disconnected from it all. I want people to talk TO me to find out how my day was, not cheat and read my status or foster some weird friendship because they follow me. BLAH! Those who stay in contact with me will be my friends.
Ironic, yes, that I start blogging again to fill the huge void of free hours in my life. I will justify the use of this social media as a somewhat literary experiance...

I was wondering where you went =-) I look forward to reading more blog posts about your adventures in the U.K. See you soon!
ReplyDeleteWoo, hoo! Way to go Jackie, as soon as all of this wedding stuff is over, my FB is going bye bye once again.
ReplyDeleteYes, lookig forward to seeing you, too! Moral support on the no FB is nice, everyone here thinks I'm borderline weird. Haha. Too much drama!
ReplyDeleteJackie!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I deactivated our accounts for our New Years Resolution in 2009... We didn't have them for awhile until we were needing wedding contact information etc. However, I am now reconsidering deactivating mine again. It brings too much drama amongst family and friends... I think I'm going to stick to blogging, too! Enjoy your free time! And enjoy England!!! : )

Yes, I know it. DRAMA! Haha, there are so many inside jokes that are not understood that so many onlookers fret over. PLEASE! I my frend-the moldy cannoli is doing the same thing as you did since she wants everyone's info until her big day. I did enoy all the photos. I like photstalkling you and your puppies. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie,
ReplyDeleteSteph's mom here, you know, the tee shirt lady! Oh gosh, don't get me started on facebook....see how angry (not real angry, you know, the makeup kind).....everybody is on fb. I'm totally out of the loop...........not quite sure what happened to "real conversation" but some of my family and friends are very strange about the concept of facebook and oddly enough, have questioned why I've not joined. They forgotten the message that we drilled in heads about peer pressure. Just Say NO!
Anyway, will keep your blog current. I enjoy Steph's so much. Hope all of your family is well. Hello to all. Enjoy your stay in England. Awesome.
